Laura Meredith, haircare expert and beauty blogger from Hairtrade.com has revealed how you can recreate these glamorous looks from your own home.
It was plain to see that subtle, nude nails were all the rage on the red carpet this year with stars like Margot Robbie toning down her bold lips with neat, nude nails.
Laura’s top tips to get nude nails right for you include finding the right shade for your skin tone.
She advises, “Finding a nude nail colour is a bit like finding your foundation shade, it wants to match the rest of your complexion in order to look crisp and clean.
“Look at the color of your nail bed, the tones that are there should match the tones in your nude nail polish. Try holding up your foundation bottle to your nail polish to compare shades.
“Nude nails look best on short, squared off nails that are well maintained, so make sure they are in tip top shape before you start applying the polish.”
In order to match your hairstyle with these neutral nails then you need to keep your hair simple yet elegant for true Oscars glamour.
This year, one hairstyle that cropped up regularly was Hollywood waves. Stars like Keira Knightley, America Ferrera, Chrissy Teigen and Carmen Ejogo all took inspiration from the glamorous 40’s this year.
“The great thing about this style is that it can work on almost any hair length,” reveals Laura. “The trick to getting really structured waves is to carefully section your hair and make sure the waves are even. If you’re going for a more undone look, try curling your hair in alternating directions towards and away from your face for each curl.
“If your hair goes into tight ringlets when using a curling wand, brush through your hair with your fingers to relax the waves.
“My favorite way of wearing this look is with a deep parting and swept all over to one side.”

Another popular hairstyle this year was the classic updo with a twist, with many of the nominees sporting low side buns.
“This is another really versatile style, you can either make it romantically messy with escaping tendrils like Zoe Saldana or sleeked back and elegant like Sienna Miller,” says Laura.
“This look is much more achievable than you’d think and doesn’t require a great deal of products. If you’re putting your bun to the side then make sure it’s on the same side as your parting or direction of your fringe.”
New research by Hair Development reveals that one third of women regularly wear hair extensions, with 90% of those keeping it a secret from their friends and family. Inspired by celebrities including Kim Kardashian, long locks remain in fashion, with over 34% of women regularly incorporating hair extensions into their beauty regimes. However, 87% of women remain tight-lipped over their extensions.
“For the most part, women aren’t intentionally keeping their hair extensions a secret. The craftsmanship nowadays is so good and with a huge range of natural looking textures and colours and utterly discreet application systems, it’s impossible for most people to tell,” says Mark Burns, managing director of Hair Development. “If it never comes up in conversation, people assume the hair is natural and hair extension wearers go undetected. It’s a really wonderful feeling for the wearer to know that their look appears authentic and is not questioned. Nobody wants obvious extensions – everyone is hankering for that genuine, natural and healthy look.”
Mark adds, “Extensions used to be seen as something that only celebrities could indulge in but nowadays they are part of the mainstream. There truly is something for everyone whether they are looking for longer locks, thicker tresses or just to experiment with style and colour. There’s no better way to transform your look and attitude than to incorporate extensions into your beauty. strategy and whether you want to shout it from the rooftops or keep quiet about it, nobody will know that you are wearing extensions.”

Scratch reveals amusing nail tales from the working lives of techs across the globe. Here, OPI educator Loretta Walker reveals her dalliance with Hollywood stars…
“My most memorable tekking gig was working on the James Bond movie, Skyfall for OPI."
“I traveled down to Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, UK and worked on the actors and extras using OPI products. It was the most amazing experience; once the team and I had worked on the nails in the dressing room, we were then called to set and got to see a slice of the action! I actually filed nails on the set of the casino scene."
“The local newspaper did a story and called me ‘The Bond Girl of Wollaston!"
